Arguably the first exclusively mainstream band to do such a thing,
Incubus
launched a fan made video contest at the tail end of 2006 for "Dig"-
the second single off their sixth album
Light Grenades.
The band provided extensive green screen footage with the promise that
the contest winner would have produced the song's official video- to be
serviced to music channels worldwide. Our video wound up being
personally chosen by the band as a top 5 finalist and director
Matt Ryan
was flown to LA in February 2007 to meet the band and attend their final
shows on the Light Grenades US Tour. We took a very personal and realistic approach to the video. The song touches on the idea of finding yourself in another person and as such we interpreted that through the common tale of the single mother and how she attains redemption in her child's eyes. Adding to the realism, we enlisted stage actress Alicia Barone and her real life 2 year old daughter Victoria. While the footage between Alicia and David Tarasi (playing the part of the reluctant father) is scripted, everything between her and Victoria is entirely authentic and was shot while simply spending the day with them. |
